What is EMDR Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including:

• PTSD
• Depression and anxiety
• Chronic illness and medical issues
• Grief and loss
• PTSD/CPTSD
• Sexual assault
• Sleep disturbance
• Substance abuse and addiction
• Violence and abuse

How is EMDR Different from Other Therapies?

EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or homework between sessions. EMDR supports the brain to resume its natural healing process. EMDR therapy is designed to process traumatic memories in the brain, so the person is informed by these memories but not controlled by them. Part of the therapy includes alternating eye movements, sounds, or taps. For many clients, EMDR therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies.

EMDR therapy can be done in-person or via virtual platforms and must be done with a properly trained and licensed mental health clinician.

EMDR therapy is recognized as an effective treatment by the American Psychiatric Association; American Psychological Association; International Society for Traumatic and The World Health Organization. ©2022 EMDR International Association

Stress. It has a way of getting in our way of living the life we imagined. Living with anxiety, depression, and the effects of trauma, to name a few, is very difficult. It impacts our relationships, self-confidence and health. No, there are no magic fixes but there are things we can do to manage these and move on with our life. Counselling is for learning new ways to deal with stress; coping skills, self-care skills, and ways to process those past stressors so we can move on. I want to use the knowledge and skills I have acquired as a social worker to help you do this. I believe everyone can change with a little help and work.

I have 18 years of experience in mental health and counselling with adults, children & youth. By utilizing various therapeutic approaches, particularly EMDR (a technique for addressing past traumas and negative beliefs), CBT, and mindfulness, we can work together to help you heal and reduce the amount of emotional distress you are living with.

If you are seeking a compassionate, experienced professional to support you on your journey to healing and growth, I am here to help. By creating a safe, supportive space, I empower my clients to explore their experiences, uncover their strengths, and develop the skills necessary to move beyond difficulties. Please reach out to see how we can work together.
